A Concert for Hope

Photo by Alex Wong / Getty Images

Last evening, President Obama and the First Lady were joined by Vice President Biden and Dr. Biden for 'A Concert for Hope' held at the Kennedy Center in Washington to mark the tenth anniversary of 9/11. For the concert, Mrs. O wore a Prabal Gurung at J.Crew Exploding bow blouse paired with a slim black pencil skirt (or possibly trousers?). A stack of bangles completed the chic black and white look. Dr. Biden opted for a lace cocktail dress, embellished with a ribbon belt at the waist.

My original post did not make it through, I will try again, perhaps more succinctly. And if this does not work will just move on

I like the blouse very much for its festive relief of the day's heavy mood, which was akin to a 24-hour funeral. It reminds me of the turn toward an upbeat tempo at the conclusion of a New Orleans service, or even a Catholic mass (think "Now Thank We All Our God").

Over the weekend I learned from a recent Facebook reconnection that a grade school classmate had perished in World Trade Center. It was a hard time catching up with this nice girl's photos as an equally lovely adult and reconciling her passing. (And BTW was she ever a model for Let's Move. She and Mrs O would have been each other's fans.) The bow shirt, however, at the end of a couple days of sadness, was just fun to look at, very full of life.

I love this blouse. It is a burst of life and optimism at the end of a tough couple of days.

Oxfarm, my sympathies.
