Erickson Beamon Starburst

Image used with kind permission from Erickson Beamon / Showroom Seven New York

While fabricated stories about Mrs. O's jewelry run rampant - something just didn't seem right from the start - we thought we'd continue to highlight the true classics. The brooch that started it all. It was this starburst in turquoise and silver that first caught our eye and will be forever synonymous with the night Mrs. O took the stage of the 2008 Democratic National Convention. At the time, it reminded Elizabeth Snead of the L.A. Times of the rising sun in the Obama campaign logo; we tend to agree. A perfect accent to Mrs. O's turquoise Maria Pinto sheath dress, this is a statement piece we hope to see again soon. Credit for this stunning brooch again goes to Erickson Beamon, whose line can be found at Beyond 7 in New York and Ikram in Chicago.

Inspirational.
Oh what one could do with some filigree, side drilled teardrops and a vintage button or button earring.

What I'm loving about Erickson Beamon is that they take something that you'd think of as so frumpy, like a brooch, and reinvent it. You don't realize that until you see it up close.

Wow - all of the photos I saw of Mrs O wearing this piece were taken from distance - amazing to see how detailed the brooch actually is.

So beautiful! I wish Mrs. O's jewelry would look this great on TV because you really can't see how wonderful these pieces are.

I like Lisa C's comment on "...[reinventing] something you'd think of as...frumpy...." As evidenced by your close up, the brooches Michelle seems drawn to have such subtle edginess to them. How heartening that these designers draw from the past and add their own modern nuances.

exquisite, and perfect for that dress precisely for the reason so many expressed how detailed but subtle it is-it added to the beauty and line of the dress but didn't detract from it.
Michelle definitely has the eye.

I LOVE THE DRESS MARC JACOBS DESIGNED FOR MRS O. FOR THE INAUGURATION (i think yellow looks great on her, like the J crew ensemble she wore on J Leno)

The one DVF sketched for her looks nice too

check out what other big name designers designed for her:

yea, the peter som one was really nice

i don't know what Betsy Johnson was thinking, like was that a serious sketch for Mrs O?

and I didn't like most of the sketches for Sasha and Malia, but most of the Mrs O. ones were nice

Layo + Yvonne, Happy to see you discussing the WWD sketches, which I agree, are fabulous! I've just added a post dedicated to the sketches, so now we'll have a dedicated place to discuss.
