A White House Christmas

Hooray for the White House Flickr page, which has released new photos from various White House events held over the past month. Below we'll share our favorites, which include first looks at a few new Mrs. O frocks.

The president and first lady descend the grand staircase at the White House, to attend the "Christmas in Washington" event on December 13th.  For the occasion, Mrs. O chose a pleated jersey dress by Isabel Toledo ("very Marilyn Monroe" in the designer's words).

On December 4th, the president and first lady met Edith Childs of Greenwood, S.C.. Ms. Childs coined the phrase, "Fired Up! Read To Go!" which became the chant of the Obama campaign. Mrs. O wore a Michael Kors Gold Silk Lurex suit jacket and matching pencil skirt for the event. To note, we've seen the first lady wear the same ensemble in bold yellow and metallic red for prior events.

Above, Mrs. O greeted guests during a holiday reception on December 15th. The first lady wore an emerald green Jason Wu cocktail dress with layered fan detailing through the skirt. The dress is from the designer's Spring 2009 collection, seen here.

We're treated to another look at Mrs. O's purple pleated chiffon Peter Soronen gown, paired with an edgy Tom Binns necklace.

We'll end with a look at the winter wonderland at the White House. The photo above was taken just yesterday. Happy Holidays everyone!

And here I was runnin' over to tell Mrs. T about the new Flicker pix (after grumbling to myself earlier in the day because of the lack of new WH Christmas pix... It was killing to know there were party dresses we weren't seeing) Should've known Mrs. T would be on the case!

I can see why everyone was talking about that green Jason Wu. It really is fabulous.

Love all the looks (with slight exception for the Michael Kors short sleeve suit, which looks a little meh in the mix.)

This is my favorite shot of the Isabel Toledo dress:

Thanks so much for this fun site, Mrs. T. All the best & Happy Holidays to all my cyber-friends here.

<3 the pleated jersey dress by Isabel Toledo and the emerald green Jason Wu cocktail dress. I can see myself wearing these dresses well.

Hi desertwind, I think everyone sort of hit their "where are the new photos?" threshold today, myself included. White House Flickr page to the rescue! I do especially love the Jason Wu dress.

All hits! Once again, Mrs. O avoids the standard holiday colors. I love the awed expression of the little girl in the center of the picture with the Jason Wu. Hope we get to see some details of the accessories...maybe the Garavelli pin will make another appearance?

I had just returned from Flickr to view the green dress, when lo & behold, all these brand new pics were simultaneously posted! Thank you, thank you thank you. This green Jason Wu is absolutely fabulous. PERFECT for Mrs. O. The fabric looks like silk. Love it. The off-white sheath is a a real stunner also. Michelle is just awe-inspiring, I can't get enough of her.

Thanks Mrs.T.

The Kennedy Honors thread was named "Worth the Wait" . Today's post merits at least a "Worth the wait-Part Two. You were absolutely right about hitting the threshold.... I was beginning to feel withdrawal symptons.

I'm especially blown away by green dress and appreciate all the background on the necklace. Thanks for the early Christmas present!!!!

Yep, I love all these looks. Some more than others, but they all are winners in my book.

FYI, Pics on yahoo of Mrs. O, Malia, Sasha, and Bo at the hospital today where they read Christmas books to the children.

BTW, Mrs. O is wearing her lovely pin. There are pics on getty too.

What a delightful video of the girls and BO. It was really an extra treat. I loved the various--what seemed like adlib--comments from the girls...so very sweet . Thanks for the post Nyon!

I LOVE LOVE THE JASON WU GREEN DRESS!

Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at 5:54 PM | Registered Commentervontrice smith

Ditto to the other posters. I was suffering major withdrawal symptoms and lo and behold, I log on and experience sensory overload. Where to begin................???

Okay.......

Picture #1 - A prince taking his princess to the ball. I love the dress, it reminds me of the Azzedine Alaia dress that she wore in Prague earlier this year. That whole look is a Michelle favourite for me.

Picture # 2- That gold suit looks beige to me but something is clear; the President and First lady are having so much fun. Just look at how hard Michelle is smiling.

Picture # 3 - I love love love this dress and I must have it in my life. The colour is perfect. One thing is evident; The Obama's know how to put on a show, look at all those people ? You almost forget the amount of people who have had the opportunity to step into the White House. They have brought so much fun and class to the world of politics.

Picture # 4 - I simply love this colour on Michelle and the President is saying to himself, "Look at what I've got ? And she's all mine !!"

Picture #5 & 6 - Beautiful pictures and what an elegant dress.

Picture # 7 - No words necessary. Winter wonderland sums it all up for me.

WOW - the Jason Wu dress! Still I have to say, that orchid Sorenson gown wows me every time I see the FLOTUS in it. The pictures of the White House grounds covered in snow is spectacular! I agree.....not feelin' the Kors ensemble.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!

I totally agree with everyone who said it was time for new pics. If you don't have pics up every 2 days Mrs. T, I go through withdrawal. I must say from these pics that Mrs. O is looking fine as wine. She's gorgeous and graceful with a capital G. That green Jason Wu with the chignon is an amazing ensemble. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.

Classiest POTUS and FLOTUS ever. The Jason Wu is breathtaking, and I also love the red suit that Edith "Fired Up!" is wearing. Now that's a statement!

Thank you, mrs.o.org for not taking a holiday! I was really feeling left alone. Now, after seeing these fabulous photos, I'm right back in the Holiday Spirit!

lovely and could only be appreciated best by the lovely ladies who frequent this site.

What a treat! Thanks Mrs. T. I was beginning to go beserk without pictures of OUR favourite lady, FLOTUS.
All the pictures are beautiful, My favourite dress is the black Isabel Toledo. I am looking for something special for my upcoming special day. Every time I see something new from Mrs. O, I make changes here and there.I have taken parts from different dresses to create a new whole.
To all my fellow commentors, Happy Holidays and much health and prosperity in 2010.
To Mrs. T, thanks again for a BEAUTIFUL blog. I love it. It is my respite from the madness of the world.

Does anyone know who designed the sleeveless ivory velvet sheath dress? It is stunning, and I'm typically not a fan of velvet.

Aaaaah, what a respite from the current dreary weather here in the Midwest. Enjoyed this collection of pics so much. Love love love the Isabel Toledo dress. It is so ALIVE and Michelle is so alive in it. It almost looks as if it must have a petticoat beneath it, to keep the evenness of the flare so airy, and so perfectly in place. Love love, too, the tender touches that Michelle and her man constantly share. So nice and so real. One last thing--does anyone else notice how beautiful Michelle's hands are? I am not talking about the grooming, thought that is surely beautiful, too, rather about the beauty of her skin-and-bone hands. Always so lovely and so expressive.

Best holiday wishes to all. JMH

Beautiful colour on Mrs. O, the fin-like design is so perfect for her.

Mermaid, green sea, fresh, perfect for her figure - comes to mind in

this stunning dress. TO DIE FOR, I gotta get me one. Yu Go Mrs. O.

Always - hit the nail right on the head.

They are a beautiful and elegant couple. Very dignified and yet so warm and real.
Melinda, you slay me lol!!

Great pictures and great looks on Mrs. O!

I love love love the green Jason Wu. Mark - you asked about the front of the dress. Click on the hot link Mrs. T provided and you will see a picture from the Wu show. It may be the only picture ever of a model in a dress that actually made me think "I'd buy that!" Usually the models are so undernourished and deflated that it's hard to imagine what the dress actually looks like. Not so, this time!

I would love more info on the ivory velvet dress. It looks like a silk velvet - so rare these days. It's very '40s to me. Tell us more, Mrs. T!

I agree with JMH about MO's hands. They are beautiful and expressive - long, elegant fingers, perfect nails. She uses them beautifully.

Finally - Happy Christmas to all. I love being a part of this community, and thank everyone for joining in the fun!

And - especially - thanks to Mrs. T. I hope you have a spectacular holiday!

What on earth was I doing when these were posted...I totally did not see these! Gosh, old age will sneak up and grab me (not in a good way) before I know it! Nontheless, these are delightful. I especially love the face on the liittle girl peeking out while behind the velvet ropes...that whole picture has a thousand stories in it. Great photography! Our Michelle sure has hit a stride. That Jason Wu dress is piping hot. I like that Michael Kors suit and Mr. President is having a ball dancing with Edith Childs! Looks like Michelle is cracking up at them. On another thread someone mentioned her hands, they sure are pretty.

I just love Our First Family!

Oh my! That green dress with the fan detail is incredibly like the last dress I wore on a catwalk! My favourite, it had layer upon layer of large pastel tinted leaf shaped fans like that. They lifted and fluttered as you walked. Gosh it was pretty, as is this.

Thanks for the line-up Ms T, they're all fab. Is there a close up of that Marilyn Monroe number?
