Summertime Tracy Feith

The First Lady of Russia, Mrs. Svetlana Medvedeva, joined Mrs. O for a visit to the Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C. today. For the event, Mrs. O wore a Tracy Feith dress - first seen back in August 2008 for the Democratic National Convention - paired with olive green heels and a stack of bangle bracelets. A fantastic summer look!

I love following Ms. Obama's fashions. She looks so stately in this outfit. I continue to admire her ability to do all the things she does and still look rested and fresh. She has knocked it out of the ball park again with this look. I'm glad she had a chance to get away with her family for a few days.

I love this outfit. The white belt, pants, are my favorite. The silver shoes. I am trying to figure out how to replicate this for myself.

This dress reminds me of another sleeveless summer dress, the designer of which I don't think we know. Does anyone else find these similar?

(A while back someone posted a request that we use TinyURL or some other shortening service to eliminate long Web addresses. In my abysmal ignorance, I thought, "I would, if I knew how!" Well, it's so easy. Just go to www.tinyURL.com and it almost takes care of itself. The above 26-character URL was originally 405 characters. Live and learn, I say at 50+ years! Mrs. O is such a good influence on us!)

I am so glad that Mrs. O. is wearing this Feith dress again, as it's one of my favorites. The length is perfect for her, the colors are very pretty and feminine, and it also fits well.

I love this dress. Always have. And with the green shoes it looks so colourful - which is funny because last time it looked really beige! Cool.

I love, love, love this dress. It's a strange little number but I love it. It really looks good on FLOTUS and as a dressmaker, it will look good on me, too not very long from now.

I love the dress very cute...I cannot wait to see what she does next week.

Mrs. Obama looks elegant in this beautiful, colorful dress! She really 'WoWs' me with her step out of the box mind-set to wear something totally different and fun at the same time!

She is really tall. i can't wait to see what she will be wearing in Canada!

Very nice summery dress for her. She looks great!

Love the cheerful color combinations she wears, always looking fresh and happy.
She's just delightful. I'd love to peek into her closet.

I would like this dress if the "lei" looking embellishment on the neckline stopped at the top of the shoulder area and there was more of a smooth line. That's just my personal opinion and I know a lot of you would disagree with me, and that's fine. I like the shoe color choice! I'm sure when the first ladies were outdoors everyone was wishing they had gone sleeveless. It's really summer!

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 12:35 PM | Unregistered Commentercanyongal

This is really nice!! I love it - perfect for the oppressive heat we are experiencing right now in the DC/VA/MD area.

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 1:49 PM | Registered CommenterPatient

To me, it is a bit bizzarre. But it is good for the event, a visit to an arts school. I think I would like it more without the ruffly-stuff going on at the neckline.

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 1:50 PM | Unregistered CommenterMark

what a whimsical dress...I like it alot, especially like when she wears heels.

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 3:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterAM

Sorry...I don't like the way this outfit looks on Mrs. Obama.

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 3:34 PM | Unregistered CommenterTia

If I saw this on a hanger I would never buy it, but it looks great on our First Lady.

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 3:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterJoyce

Mrs. O is fabulous indeed but I have grown weary of the sleeveless dresses and have found that it may look out of place at certain events and places. (I m sorry y'all. Just give me a cigarette before I stand before the firing squad...lol). Here it looks a tad bit too casual in comparison to the business look of the Russian first lady. Yes, she has the right to bear those fabulous arms but I've gotten to the point where I am a bit bored with the looks, which takes my attention to where we should be which is to her intelligence and dedication to community service and family. Don't get me wrong. There may be a sleeveless dress in the near future that will get me excited again and I will be in here whooting it up with everyone. But right now its just eh...a suit or a dress with a sleeve would have been a better choice. No, the first lady is not exposed to the level of heat/summer we are forced to endure. So, yes, she can pull off sleeves and still be right for summer.

Oh, dear, no. Where do I start?

It's ill-fitting (look where the waistband is!), the ruffles are childish and the one at the bottom makes it look like "it's snowing down south", as we used to say.

Definitely not one of her better looks.

Great silhouette.

Friday, June 25, 2010 at 9:14 PM | Unregistered CommenterGeorgia

I am so proud of how well she represents the feminine side of our country! She's not afraid to be tough, but she's still a woman in every respect. Pant suits be danged!!

I don't have an awful lot to say, other than that I now like this dress an awful lot!

Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 7:12 AM | Unregistered CommenterDee

I've seen this dress on Mrs. O in person and it's really, really beautiful on her. Stunning fitting and shaping, lots of gorgeous detail - a terrific and very flattering silhouette. In very warm weather, the colors on her are the essence of sleek, cool and chic. I love seeing her in it again.

Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 10:05 AM | Registered Commentermeta

meta--I suspect that is true of most of her clothes--more striking in person than in a photograph. But I think she looks quite perfect in this photo and others I've seen.

The difference in height stands out, but they seem to be having a good time together. They'll be together again tonight in Toronto. The president and first lady come together and then he goes off to a working dinner while the spouses engage in other activities. On Sunday Michelle will be attending a brunch (perhaps other spouses, too?) with a brunch with Canada's top women. Should be interesting.

I expect that she'll go home after that. The president has a full packed day from early morning till evening. No chance she'd get a chance to see him and it's a pretty short hop home for both.

The more I look at Mrs. Obama in this simply beautiful dress, the more it reminds me of India with it's wonderful, colorful silks!

And another state dinner to look forward to later this year for China.

Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 10:52 PM | Registered CommenterSharon Nelson

Wow I am swooning at the latest pic of the Obamas + Canada's first couple! Once again, Michelle has outdone herself with a totally fresh look. What better color for the middle of summer than bright white! Wish I could get a closer look at the earrings. BUT I am equally impressed with Mrs. Harper's dress! It looks like something that Michelle would absulutely want in her closet. And her shoes are so cool, very "fashion forward".

Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 3:48 AM | Registered Commenterbabs

Mrs.O looks breathtaking in her white coktail dress. it is unmistakably an Alaia.those are his trademark dresses like Hervé Leger has his trademark bandage dresses.

I love Mrs.Harper shoes. makes her floral dress looks fashion forward.

Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 7:31 AM | Registered Commenterchrystelle

White version of the black Alaia worn last year in Baden Baden. She should ditch the crinolines. This skirt looks much prettier, more graceful falling from the waistline in trumpet-shaped flared ripples as was originally intended.

Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 10:58 AM | Unregistered CommenterBeeGee

As a neighbouring (yeah, that's how it's spelled here) Canadian nice to hear a few words of praise for Laureen Harper--another "first lady" with a lot of moxy. (She rides a motorcycle around Ottawa, and supports a number of great causes though without the celebrity status of Mrs. O.) I think Mrs. O has influenced a number of first ladies around the globe to step up to the fashion plate. (Though watch the tax payers cry foul.)

That said, the Tracy Feith doesn't do it for me. The top photographs badly--bunched and wrinkled. And that many horizontal lines rarely look great on anything--even a barber's pole. The white dress for Canada, though rich in horizontal detailing, gives the illusion of one sleek dress.

Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 11:28 AM | Unregistered Commenterphilly

She looks beautiful--meaning her skin, hair, makeup & body!

Sunday, June 27, 2010 at 1:02 PM | Unregistered CommenterKay

I must say Mr Alaia has redeemed himself with this G20 dinner dress. I have to say the Nobel ball dress while interesting and pretty, was ill fitting. I like this shorter version and thought of him when I first saw this. I like the frills at the bottom and on closeup, I love the bodice. It has a very interesting design.

This is a nice summertime dress. I would not even dream of wearing horizontal stripes. That would be a nightmare for me as well as all who had the misfortune of having to see that faux pas. My body type does not lend itself toward this style. It works well on our Michelle. She's tall and statuesque so this is a good fit for her.I like the lace at the hemline, adds another dimension to the dress. Oh, don't get me started about those Jimmy Choo shoes.....love them!

I love Michelle but I am not fond of this dress. I totally agree with Hyde Parker's comments. The colors are pretty, though. Her legs and arms are gorgeous! Cool shoes! Love her hair. Another State Dinner and for China? That will be fun to watch.
