In the Details

On Wednesday, Mrs. O continued her push for "Let's Move," delivering remarks on childhood obesity at the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C.

For the conference, the first lady wore a white sleeveless dress, chock-full of details. The white fabric is textured with a spray of embossed navy dots, and further embellished with embroidered pink and white flowers. The dress also features an illusion neckline, created by a sheer overlay that covers the strapless bottom layer of the bodice. If only we could see more!

Update: Thanks to the working girl (esq) (check out her beyond fabulous blog!) who helped to identify the first lady's dress as Balenciaga. You can see the distinctive embroidered fabric in the Balenciaga Resort 2010 collection, here, as well as a similar embroidered Balenciaga dress available at Matches, here.

I need to see the full length of this frock but truly, I like what I see. Is it me, or has the First lady been out every day since she returned from holiday ? I love her.

This is lovely. Mrs. O does so well in choosing fabrics with unusual and interesting texture. I need to look for other views!

Loving the texture although I think it's a bit draining in tone - agree with you Mrs T that it would be nice to see more. We await more pics!

Adore the fabric. Weary of the silhouette-sleeveless sheath.

I find this dress to be very odd, although I like the detail up to a point. It reminds me of the frosting on those pick and white animal cookies.

I agree with Silver Pearls, weary of the sleeveless sheath. Also agree with Posh Tater, the colors in the fabric are not complimentary to Mrs. Obama's skin tone. She has had a few winners lately (the bronze and navy dress for example) but I think this one should go to the back of the closet.

I sure would like to see more of this dress, also. For some odd reason, I could not pull up the Youtube video that Anagrom referenced. It's probably because I'm using this old desk top since my laptop bit the dust. Anyway, from what I can see, I like a lot. This dress seems to have some texture and unique patterns to it. Our Michelle really shines in a sheath dress and pink tones. Loveley!

LOL, Christen! Circus Animal cookies! You are right!

Part of the reason this isn't flattering is probably the lighting.

Wow Balenciaga! I think this is the first time she's been seen wearing a Balenciaga piece, no? LOVE!

The Working Girl, thank you so much! This is the first time I'm aware of the first lady wearing Balenciaga.

I had the pleasure of attending the session at the CBC Foundation Annual Legislative Conference where Mrs. Obama spoke. Her remarks were timely and she looked absolutely lovely. I was able to get close enough to shake her hand and to thank her for her work on behalf of all Americans. She is truly a remarkable woman, taking the time after delivering her remarks, to talk to and hug the young students.

I like the distinctive pattern and texture of this dress, but agree i would love to see more.
