Regal Ralph Lauren

Photo by Charles Dharapak / AP Images

This evening the President and First Lady are hosting a dinner for Queen Elizabeth at the Winfield House, where the U.S. ambassador to the U.K. lives. For the occasion, Mrs. O has chosen an off-the-shoulder black gown by Ralph Lauren paired with absolutely knock-out jewelry by Tom Binns and a jade and diamond lattice ring by Yewn. Stunning!

The gown originates from the Ralph Lauren Fall 2011 collection, seen here. (Thanks BeeGee!)

I love the look...the dress and the way the POTUS looks at the FLOTUS.

You know what, to Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang, and especially Oscar De La Renta: Wait your turn! She has 6 more years! I sort of feel bad for ODLR because as Mrs. O ticks of every single major and up and coming young American Designer, maybe Mr. De La Renta has been removed from the list because he couldn't understand that patience is a virtue. In two days Mrs. O has worn Marc Jacobs, and for the first time, Tom Ford and Ralph Lauren. I love how she does things in her own time! Coming out of the blocks there was no need to be a clothes horse and wear all the big names, in a calculated effort, she established that she will wear White House Black Market, J. Crew, and H & M. That resonated with American women and women around the world and now she is free to wear whoever she likes and we know she is not wearing the designer just for the name.

I love the dress, but what is even better is the way her husband is looking at her. WOW what a wonderful team they make

She look wonderful in Tom Ford but I think she looks great in this dress. Nothing beat the Naeem khan she wore at the first state dinner for india. This beige/nude color dress is still my favorite. I must admit that Ralph Lauren looks splendid on her.

Wow, She's finally wearing something I like and she really looks nice!! Nice choice Michelle.

I think the jewelry is Tom Binns, as a few others mentioned ... but I want to confirm just to be sure.

The design and fit are sheer perfection. It's hard to imagine how this could be any more exquisite. Her jewelry is a dazzling counterpoint. I love how she always takes risks in clothing style, accessories, hair and make-up, always taking her look to a new and really exciting level. I think what it shows us and teaches us is it's all about confidence. I love this couple.

Stunning! Elegant! Cool! I love this look, she has really shined on this Europe trip

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 7:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterNicole

Gorgeous! Jaw-droppingly beautiful! FLOTUS has hit it way out the park and is batting .1000 with these outfits. The contrast is amazing as well. Last night's gown was innocence, doll-like and princessy--a real life black princess, an image that with resonate with many women all over the world--and tonight's gown says maturity, grace and elegance, with a soupcon on ingenue--especially the hair and eye makeup. It's very Twiggy 1960s with that wide-eyed doe look in contrast to the maturity and utter womanliness of the gown. So simple, but so elegant.

This has bee ntruly an exciting fashion treat for all of us. I jsut saw Oprah's interview of Ralph Lauren. He stated that all of his designs are truly done with love and inspiration. Each dress has a story to tell. This dress is so amazing on Mrs. O. She shows how great these clothes look on a woman who is fit. She is truly taking Europe by storm. This is so uplifting for us all. She is just spreading love and warmth. It is so needed at this time. Just beautiful.

I love this dress on her. I think I like this dress more than the Tom Ford dress, and I loved the Tom Ford dress!

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 8:06 PM | Registered CommenterCarolinababe

Isn't that amazing. The Tom Ford was perfect. And so is this, just in a different way. Knockout. Sheer knockout.

I am simply blown away! Look at our Michelle. She really has transformed the role of First Lady in such a positive way. I've said it before and I'll say it again, we owe Barack Obama a huge THANK YOU for this one! Everything about this is on point: dress, hair, make-up, jewelry and the best accessory ever, an adoring husband. I think our President is looking rather dapper with that sly grin. I love it!

She is the definition of stunning in this dress!

Could this be the Tom Binns necklace Mrs. Obama is wearing?

Oh this is a new fave of mine. I bet that gown has an inner corset. It's nice to see her waist emphasized without a belt.

Breathtaking glamour folks!!

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 8:32 PM | Unregistered Commentermarcelle

This gown is fantastic -- one of her very best. It shows her narrow waist and her curves beautifully.

I'm confused by the necklace -- or is it two or more necklaces? It's difficult to believe a designer would have used so many stones and produced such a confusing, congested look. It's also difficult to understand why Mrs. O would have worn more than one, causing this jumbled appearance.

The bracelet is lovely. I like the spot of color in the green ring. Very Mrs. O.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 8:39 PM | Registered CommenterHeatherT

Oh Mah Gah! This lady is HOT! From feminine and demure in ivory, to sexy and sophisticated in black. She's too much. Her hair looks wonderful, jewelry is perfect, and the fit of this dress highlights all of Mrs. O best attributes. Just stunning.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 8:40 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

@ Heather T - the necklace reminds me of that classic look with the Chanel pearl necklace wrapped over and over creating that tangled look.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 8:44 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

The dress looks better on Mrs. O than the model. Funny, curves will do that for a dress.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 8:52 PM | Unregistered Commentero'Coutoure

She made it look better than on the runway! Ralph Lauren should say 'Thank you, Michelle!'

The fit is perfect. She has a high waist and this particular gown eliminates the problem for her. Love the neckline, too. This is as good as she has ever looked. It doesn't matter how much a garment costs, if it doesn't fit properly, cost is irrelevant. The necklace is great, very fashion forward. I give this a 10+!

I LOVE IT

Her clothes have mostly been flawless on this trip. The white outfit was incredible. I love this as well. I have one comment and a very faint criticism, both relating to the ring. The comment is ... interesting that she ditched her wedding/engagement band in order to accommodate this other ring. The criticism is that I think the fluidity of the necklace and bracelet don't really go with the angles of the ring. But that is a small cavil. She looks amazing -- and really different from the night before. She is amazing, and that is clearly what her hubs is thinking too. (Has anyone else noticed how he keeps beaming on this trip? I LOVE that!!!!)

I’m speechless, so I’ll have to borrow (and slightly rearrange) some of Sir Paul’s lyrics…ebony and ivory, each worn back to back in perfect harmony. What a treat it is to follow this magnificent woman in her elegant style choices. The bigger joy comes from seeing the core essence of her that always shines through, no matter what, or whom, she is wearing!

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 9:52 PM | Registered CommenterAsereht

The way the dress looks on the model and the way it looks on Michelle are like chalk and cheese. It reminds me of when I was purchasing my wedding dress. The assistant brought out several dresses based on what I told her I was looking for. I liked most of the dresses but one in particular I told her I didn't like at all. She told me to still try it on. I did and I fell in love with it. That's the one I wore on my wedding day and I still love it even more each day. It just goes to show what a real body can do for an outfit. The same would have applied here. One should never write off a dress based on how it looks on a rack or model.
Michelle certainly made this dress extra special and the dress made her even more beautiful, if that is at all possible. O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G- L-Y S-M-AS-H-I-N-G-!!!!!

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW.... ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!! EVEN PRESIDENT OBAMA IS KNOCK OFF HIS FEET. I CAN ALWAYS COUNT A SMILE WHEN IT COMES TO, FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA. CHEERS TO THEM BOTH!!!!!

HOT DAMN!!! So now we know why the president smiles all the time!! Our First Lady ROCKS THE FASHION WORLD!!!!! The necklace is perfection! The hair! The makeup! This woman RULES, and that very lucky man standing next to her KNOWS IT!!!!

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10:13 PM | Unregistered Commenterpatsy soto

@ o'Coutoure: I was thinking the same thing. This dress on the model looks plain while on Michelle it comes to life. I really think this has something to do with the curves of FLOTUS.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10:17 PM | Unregistered CommenterAnitaW

Mrs. O is breathtaking in this dress! And I love the pulled-back hair with the side part -- I don't think we've seen our FLOTUS with her hair like this before.

Perfection! Everything on point. Flawless.

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10:34 PM | Unregistered CommenterDee

Michelle, Michelle, Michelle. My, my, my. Perfecto.

The “professional” model does nothing for the dress. Even when you click the “move it” button and she sashays down the runway…nothing. Bet not even Ralph Lauren knew his design could have looked this good.

@willet784
