Landing in South Africa

Photo by Charles Dharapak / AP Images

The First Lady, joined by her daughters, has arrived at Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria, South Africa. Upon landing, the Obama daughters were given South African blankets with colors of the South African flag.

Up next? Per the official schedule, Mrs. O will spend Tuesday meeting with President Jacob Zuma's wife, Nompumelelo Ntuli-Zuma, and visiting the Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg. Later in the day, Mrs. Obama will visit a daycare center, and is to end the day with a tour of the Apartheid Museum. That's quite a Tuesday!

On a fashion note, Mrs. O wore an orange and black jacket by Nigerian-born and London-based Duro Olowu. The jacket hailsfrom the designers Fall Winter 2010 collection.

Love the bright colored patent flats Mrs O and the girls are wearing. Sasha is getting tall!

@ Drwinona,
That's the exact same observation I made of Sasha when I viewed the photos on theobamadiary web site! I too love those colorful flats! The jacket has a really pretty orange looking bow or scarf on it in the front. You can see it on the pictures from this site. http://theobamadiary.com/
They have a very, very full schedule too! I can't wait for more pictures!

Yes is there a way we can find out where those adorable flats came from?

What a splash of color!! The blankets, the cute, flat, comfy!! shoes The blankets were a thoughtful gift. It's going into winter in South Africa, so it's probably a little chilly for them, especially landing at night. How thoughtful... Mrs. O is looking sharp. I like the geometric shapes in the jacket.

Malia is built just like her mother. She is so poised. She is gaining more confidence. Sasha is pretty.

Malia takes after the mum while Sasha takes after her daddy. They look great.

Heaven's above ! Those little girls are growing like weeds. Malia is almost as tall as her mother. Loving the ballet flats that all three ladies are wearing

Love the jacket, and I like the pants except that they are too long to wear with flats. The color blue has nothing to do with the rest of the oufit and is jarring. Orange or black kitten heels or a similarly heeled shoe would have made the outfit perfect!

They are on my continent and our Michelle's wearing a Nigerian design no less, oh joy!!! This family does know how to wear flats:-)

Fun jacket and I love the color pop shoes -- Mrs. O's style influence on her daughters. But everyone looks sooo tired. I hope they get some rest before that busy day.

A ladies trip! What a great time for the Obama girls to bond as while as an educational culture shock for Malia and Sasha.

Not very sartorially diplomatic...southern Africans despise Nigerians. But maybe she just wore what she likes! (not criticism by the way)

What a nice bouquet too! Lovely picture.

"...southern Africans despise Nigerians?" That's deep...lol. Funny how South Africa is a favorite for many wealthy Nigerians to go for holiday, so maybe the South African people aren't showing their hatred enough...

I just don't understand the need to perpetuate any possible divisions amongst people, especially the people of Africa.

Africans that live in South Africa or Southern Africa do not despise Nigerians. Also, I like all the girls flat shoes.

our girls are growing up so fast! :( Malia is sporting those "skinny jeans." They are or were popular here in Europe a year or so back - how are they viewed stateside?

spq, In the US, skinny girls wear skinny jeans, The rest of us? Not so much... (smile) But yes, they are popular. I just think they look good on the younger, slimmer set. And since I was and never will be "skinny" I'll stick with my "mom" jeans, thank you very much! LOLOL

Forget the landing. Post those stunning photos of the First Lady with Nelson Mandela! She totally rocked!!!

Playing catch-up here........ I was so happy to see that they landed and it went well. I just saw the footage where the young ladies presented the bouquet, which is gorgeous, and the blankets to Sasha and Malia. That was really touching.
On the fashion front, everybody's wearing colorful flats, too cute! I know our Michelle is rocking it (as usual), the girls are cute as ever, the nephew is handsome, but how about our First Granny! Get it Mrs. Robinson!

Something tells me we're in for a fashion feast......I cannot wait!
