Cycle Chic

Photo by Jim Watson / Getty Images

The First Lady went for a bike ride with her family on Martha's Vineyard yesterday. Mrs. O's cycling gear? A Tom Binns x John Eshaya t-shirt, last seen in September 2010, here, paired with purple shorts, sneakers and a helmet, of course.

It is so refreshing to see a First Lady do the things that we would do on vacation...and dress the way we would in shorts and a tee (albeit a much nicer tee than I would wear)!

Still lovely and apparently paint free.

Oh no!! FLOTUS is wearing short. Shorts Gate 2.0 is coming.

Anyway, I love the shorts and the whole outfit. Her skin is luminous.

Mrs. O looks like a natural cyclist. Great role model for bicycling safety, too.

Such a great, lovely FLOTUS! God bless Mrs. Obama, God bless the First Family and God bless America. Hope they continue to enjoy a wonderful vacation with dedicated "family fun times".

Love that they are both wearing helmets!!! ...IS that the President behind her? or a SS? face is so shaded it's hard to be positive. In any case, always great to see folks in the news being responsible about helmet use, law or no law. (Drives me crazy to see parents out riding bareheaded, with their little kids wearing helmets! Bike helmets are mandated here in Oregon only up to age 18.)

Love that she's wearing shorts!!! You rock Mrs. O!

@ Chimene and others:
The gentleman behind Mrs. Obama is NOT President Obama. Whether or not he is Secret Service or a family member, I have no idea. But he is definitely not our President.

Mrs. O is looking great, and fit, as always!! I love that she is wearing shorts. What else would you wear to ride a bike!?! LOLOL Some critics are just silly.

REQUEST to all eagle-eyed fashionistas here at Mrs. O. How/where did I miss this gown?!?! Can you help me identify it? Thanks so much.

gray/silver(?) double straps, sleeveless gown

Has anyone seen the front of the gown? Any idea of the fabric? construction? designer?

the gown is by azzedine alaia, mrs. o wore it after obama accepted his noble peace prize

@ isonprize - I believe the first lady wore this dress in Oslo when the President was awarded the nobel peace prize. I think the designer is Alaia but don't quote me. In all honesty, it wasn't one of my favourites looks for the first lady but she did look gorgeous in it.

“Keep Moving” Mrs. O! You are wonderful!

@ Adear - How are you? Are you back on your workout? I send out good thoughts for you every time I hit the Y!

Peace.

Bibi and Justina, I knew Mrs.O posters would come through!! Thanks. Seeing the front, I'm not crazy about the 'straight across' neckline, but I love the fabric and the skirt part of the gown is to die for!

And while I wouldn't wear the jacket because it would swallow my short neck, Mrs. O pulls it off beautifully!! The pleating in the jacket is insane. Thanks again, I've got plans for a similar design!!

@Terri Austin-Randolph Mrs sTAR - I am back to my work-outs stumbled across a boot camp at a nearby park...returning to excersie after an injury is no fun...thanks for the thoughts-it will keep me going!

Maybe soon I will be back to a bike - just like First Lady Mrs. O :) THANKS AGAIN!

The gown that she wore in Oslo seemed to get longer as the evening went on. Could it have something to do with the way it was made. I loved the jacket (remember it?) and have thought about how wonderful it would look with another skirt, or wide legged pants. Anyone agree?

Hi Mrs T & Mrs O community,

Lovely shot of FLOTUS & POTUS leaving Air Force One as they return to the White House from their Martha's Vineyard vacation a day ahead of Hurricane Irene. Fashionistas- who's she wearing? Love the color palette, design and fabric textures on this outfit:

This link from the Obama diary site shows Mrs. O. returning from the Martha's Vineyard vacation in a great Tracy Reese dress which she previously wore when the Obama family traveled to Brazil this past June.

@ Vivienne, good looking out! Those pics are so nice. I'm glad they're back at home, safe and sound. To everyone on here that is affected by Irene, I wish you all well. Be safe!

I loved the jacket part of the Oslo gown. It would be wonderful to see it paired with a different skirt.

Hello Mrs. T,

I am one of your overseas visitors. I hardly post but I do visit everyday. If I am correct I believe that you are in New York. I do hope all is well with you and you were not affected by the hurricane.
