Mint and Pink

The First Lady was in Virginia to meet Democratic supporters today. While making campaign stops, Mrs. O visited Mom's Apple Pie Company in Occoquan, where young Sydney Trapp treated the First Lady to a bit of violin. So sweet!

On a style note, Mrs. O paired a highlighter pink pencil skirt with a mint green sleeveless top and statement pearl necklace. A structured handbag and kitten heels completed the ladylike summer look. Lovely!

Update #1: Reader mincey observes that Mrs. O's bag is similar to a Jason Wu for Target style, sold out online but available on eBay here. Update #2: Mrs. O wears the Ann Taylor Jewel Neck Shell in Surf Green, available here. On the jewelry front, Mrs. O wears a Colorful Freshwater Pearl Torsade Necklace by Pearl Collective

I absolutely love the way Mrs Obama isn't afraid to experiment with colours. I would love to see the Duchess of Cambridge experiment more with colours rather than sticking to the safe nude colours all the time. I appreciate that she is a member of the royal family but in fairness the first lady of the USA is also in a very high profile role and she always looks polished and stylish.

Is that by chance one of the Jason Wu for Target handbags?

I rarely post, but I enjoy logging on to see my First Lady
Important Style Note: Mrs. O is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. (AKAs)
Their sorority colors are salmon pink and apple green
This outfit is a nice nod to that long heritage of college educated black women
Kudos to the FLOTUS

This is a cute outfit! Casual but well put together. Wish we could see a close-up of the necklace - it's looks interesting.

Gorgeous! Is this a nod to her membership in the AKA Sorority?

These personal experiences just make my heart sing! Michelle is so approachable and amazingly family oriented. I love to see these type of stories for those in public life.

This is really cute. However, Mrs. Obama is not an AKA. There was no chapter present while she was at Princeton and she never pledged to an alumni chapter. She did accept an honorary membership--but it is one that does not preclude her from joining other sororities such as the Deltas or the ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho. This is In the same vain that alot of sororities and fraternities bestow membership on celebrities, this is how the rumor started that Mrs. O was an AKA.

Dear Star and others--
I beg to differ about Mrs. O's honorary membership--an honorary membership in AKA and the other sororities does carry with it very real privileges and honorary members often become quite active at the national level. Mrs. Obama did accept a "non-exclusive" honorary membership although the other three sororities will most like not offer an honorary membership because AKA got there first. Had she already had a traditional membership as an undergraduate or a grad chapter pledge she would not have been offered an honorary membership by any of the other sororities. I personally wish that the presidents of AKA, Delta, Sigma, and Zeta had gotten together and offered a special honorary that would have been unique to Mrs. Obama. However, hindsight is always 20/20.

@Dr Cheryl

I agree with your assessment. However, I don't believe her wearing the colors pink and green here mean anything. I have seen her wear red and black as well, and I don't believe that was a nod to DST. Mrs. O wears what she wants and we do ourselves a disservice trying to cut and slice the meaning behind it. Sometimes clothes are just clothes.
