Dance, Dance, Dance!

The president and first lady started their Sunday with a celebration of Diwali at the Holy Name High School in Mumbai, India. There, Mrs. O, wearing a black and white dress, hot pink cardigan, and an embellished necklace by Erickson Beamon (available here, thanks reader Bibi!), got in on the action, dancing with local children. This is becoming the trip of dance, and it's fabulous!

P.S. Even better in video!

Update (11/27): Hats off to reader pbw, who helped to identify this suit as Nina Ricci, from the Spring 2011 collection, seen here.

Tambourines and Hopscotch

Image by Danish Siddiqui / Reuters

Mrs. O is on to her next stop, visiting children enrolled in the "Make A Difference" program at a local university in Mumbai. The program was founded by two young social entrepreneurs who mobilize young adults to serve as mentors and teachers for underprivileged children. Volunteers help children to learn English, thought to be an important part of students' long term academic success, through song, reading and other programs.

For the event, the first lady changed into a more casual ensemble, wearing a tiered floral skirt and "moss olive" lace top by J.Crew, available here, accented by an embellished thin belt at the waist and an Erickson Beamon starburst brooch. For a round of hopscotch, Mrs. O kicked off her butterscotch-hued leather ballet flats and joined in the festivities.

Click here to watch Mrs. O in action, dancing the bhangra and playing the tambourine. Amazing! Update: The First Lady wears a floral skirt by Gregory Parkinson.

Donned in Donna

The first lady is in New York City this evening, attending a Democratic National Committee fundraiser with Dr. Jill Biden and actress Sarah Jessica Parker. Earlier in the evening, Mrs. O attended a dinner hosted by designer Donna Karan. In honor of her host, Mrs. O is wearing a knee-length, draped halter dress from Donna Karan Collection, seen here (as a gown), accented by a chunky statement necklace. Dr. Biden is equally chic in a figure-hugging frock, adorned with a Mrs. O-inspired brooch.

To see another fabulous view of the first lady's dress, worn with a camel coat, click here.

Update: The first lady wore a "Tropical Punch" necklace by Erickson Beamon, seen below in detail.

Splendid in Isabel Toledo

The first lady wore a splendid pink Isabel Toledo ensemble, embellished with a stunning Erickson Beamon pin at the shoulder, to host a White House luncheon for recipients of the National Design Awards. Among those to be honored by the Smithsonian's Cooper Hewitt, National Design Museum, are sister-design duo (and Mrs. O favorite) Rodarte. Per the AP, the first lady called the winners "some of our country's most talented, most visionary, most public-minded designers."

In her own subtle way, it seemed perhaps Mrs. O was honoring design talents Isabel Toledo and Erickson Beamon too! On hand to see the ensemble, the AP describes it as, "a V-neck top, drapes of fabric at the waist and loose flowing pants."

One tidbit to share, pointed out by "Meredith P":  Upon learning that she would be seated next to Tim Gunn, the first lady said, "How cool!" And it seems the feeling are mutual. Tim Gunn later took to Facebook, writing:

"Hi everyone! I just had to get on Facebook and share the incredible day I had with you. I had the absolute honor and privilege of being seated next to Michelle Obama today at a lunch held to honor National Design Award winners at the White House. She is so stunning! I literally could spend each afternoon with her - it was such a pleasure!"

To see PHOTOS of Mrs. O's Isabel Toledo pantsuit, click here and here. There is a good deal of similarity between this pink ensemble and the black Isabel Toledo tunic and pants that Mrs. O wore to a Vogue/Calvin Klein fundraiser in 2008, seen here. Also to mention, NY Mag reports that the Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte were unfortuantely unable to attend the White House luncheon.

Opening Act

First Lady Mrs. O spoke to dance students from the Duke Ellington School of the Arts and the Joy of Motion Dance Center, as they rehearsed a segment from the Broadway show 'Hairspray' at the White House today. For the event, the first lady wore a pale green, lightweight pant suit, paired with an Erickson Beamon techno deco belt.

Update: Mrs. O's matte jersey pant suit is designed by Stephen Burrows. And the official word on the much-debated color? Sunrise Yellow.
