Pretty Peter Som

The President and First Lady attended the groundbreaking ceremony of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C. today. The museum is scheduled to open in 2015. On the style front: Mrs. O wore a Peter Som dress and custom coat. Mary Jane kitten heels completed the look.

How cute is this outfit, or I should say elegant...it's both!!!

@boazwife Sorry but there is no way that is the same dress! Good guess though!

Absolutely beautiful and stunning. She is amazing and strikingly more beautiful each day. Love this coat. God bless Mrs. Obama, God bless our First Family and God bless the United States of America. Obama 2012!!!

Very sixties chic. Love it!

A bit frumpy for me.

This is not a flattering cut on Mrs. O. It's too big and unstructured for her. Weird pocket placement. No waist. The fabric is also very old-lady looking. A sad miss.

She is pretty but the dress is not. Looks like something Barbara Bush would have worn.

Absolutely lovely. Can't wait to visit the musuem! I'm sure one some of Mrs. O's dresses will be in there.

I think the dress is cute on its own. I love the fabric of the coat and the color is beautiful but I think it's a bit shapeless for Mrs. O. Love her shoes!

They're just too cute! OAN: Love Mrs. O's suit too.

I don't think this coat is flattering at all.

Very 1960's Church Lady.,

Still love her smile.

The fabric is beautiful. This coat would look good on Queen Elizabeth. That is all I will say.

This outfit is a classic, sorry not every eye will see this.

@emmebelle, let me provide a better link

The dress in this pic:

http://theobamadiary.com/2012/02/22/evening-all-42/

Subtitled "President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama talk in the Green Room of the White House before hosting a Smithsonian Museum of African American History reception in the East Room, Feb. 22, 2012. (Official White House Photo by Pete Souza)"

Is the same dress worn in this pic:

http://mrs-o.com/newdata/2011/2/28/pretty-purple-peter-som.html

You can tell from the pattern and shape of the sleeves and the pattern viewable of the skirt portion of the dress!

I'm conflicted - I love the fabric, love the cut of the coat, but don't know if it's meant for FLOTUS. Maybe meant for someone who's a bit more box-like shape wise (ahem, like me). I still really like it, but not for her.

@Babs, I think it safe to say Queen Elizerbeth has much better taste than to wear this coat!

I don't agree with a lot of Mrs O's fashion choices. There have been some great ones, but also a lot of not so great ones imo. Seeing her in this coat though has made me appreciate the way she normally dresses. I may not be a fan of all your outfits Mrs O, but please, please get back to your usual styles!

Mrs. T, I posted that this looks like something Barbara Bush would have worn. You didnt post it. But Gaylev makes the same comment and that one gets posted???

Definitely not a favourite look of mine. The coat is nice and would suit an older woman but I'm not feeling this for Mrs Obama at all.

This dress would look better with my mom's SAS shoes with the curly shoe strings you don't have to bend over and tie.

Sorry, it may be a 60's chic but it does look like a Barbara Bush fashion statement. We all have
our own hits and misses. Still loving the first lady though.

If Mrs. O is channeling the previous, Mrs. O, aka Jacqueline Kennedy, she is doing a great job of it. However, although quite lovely, the structure and design of the dress resembles a box. Not an attractive look for her!

Are there any photos from the two fundraisers Mrs. Obama did yesterday?

Friday, February 24, 2012 at 7:27 PM | Unregistered Commentercarole

Love it! Definite vintagey 60's vibe.

This is not a dress, it is a coat over a dress.

@ KitCat...you certainly live up to your name in your comments here!

@FMT... "I don't agree with a lot of Mrs. O"s fashion choices..." Well, if that's true, why do you bother to waste your time on a blog that's dedicated to just that, Mrs. O's fashion choices? Are you a sucker for punishment or just another troll disguised as an admirer who has a need to vent your blatant hostility against the First Lady? To you I say...GET A LIFE and stay to hell off this blog for your comments are neither instructive or insightful. Instead, why don't you take your tired behind elsewhere and create a blog for all those "fashionable" spouses of the current batch of rethug candidates. You should have a lot to write and "brag" about. Get my drift?
